Four: When Five Fell

When Five Fell - written and directed by Wesley Chan

I've been following Wongfu productions since my high school days. Their work has progressed so much over the years; it's amazing and inspiring to see how far they've come. I absolutely LOVE the cinematography of this short. It's so beautiful.

I don't have much to say today. I've spent the past two days studying/procrastinating. It's been pretty chill. I got one of my papers back today (the one for my WWI history class) and I got an A on it! It made me sooooo happy because I thought I didn't do too well on the paper. It was such a great feeling to see that "A" on my paper.

In other exciting news, I'm getting my TOMS shoes in the mail tomorrow. I can't wait :)

Three: Career path

Dear Non-profits,

Please hire me. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Christy

I've applied to a decent amount of non-profits organizations over the course of this semester. So far, I haven't heard back from anyone. It's a bit demoralizing. It makes me feel discouraged and a bit reluctant to continue applying. How long must I have to deal with the lack of responses?! I've been updating my resume and cover letters constantly. Am I under qualified? Over qualified? What is it?! Please let me know. It's better than me, sitting here and wondering which one it is.

A lot of people have been asking me what my plans are for after graduation. It's a question that has been haunting me all semester. I honestly don't have any plans. I'm not going to grad school. I don't have a job lined up. I'm moving back home and that's the only thing I am certain about right now. I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do and where I want to be. I'm almost certain that I want to stay in New York (though California wouldn't be bad) and I want to work for a non-profit organization. I can't really see myself working for a large corporation or business firm. That's not really me. Even though non-profit organizations can't afford to pay me $60K, I'm totally okay with that. My mother, on the other hand, is not too happy about that. But honestly, what college graduate makes $60K a year right off the bat? Not many. I really want to do something great; I want to work for a great cause and implement social change, whether it be through a historical society or a museum or an organization whose mission is to spread arts education to inner city students.

This question of what I am going to do with my future has been bombarding me with a fervor these last few weeks. It's tiring. I'm trying, all right? I'm trying to figure out my life. Just let me figure it out first. I promise I'll let y'all know.

Two: Busy weekends

I love having busy weekends. I love the weekends that I spend away from my computer. Because you know what that means? It means I actually have a LIFE and I don't have to spend it online because I am out living it. It's a wonderful feeling.

Yeah, I know. I missed writing yesterday's post and today's post is technically overdue since it's past midnight, but it's okay because I was too busy living my life. And I think that is a totally legit excuse to miss a few blog posts :p

I did a lot of relaxing this weekend; it was so nice. After I handed in my take home exam on Friday, I went to church for RCCC's annual Grad Night. On Saturday, I woke up early to eat breakfast with a few RCCCF-ers at this place near church called, Jim's Restaurant. I haven't been up at 6:30am in the longest time. It was hard to wake up, but it was fun. The food was okay and the prices were very agreeable with my wallet. After breakfast, I went back to my room and started watching some television. I ended up falling asleep until noon. Waking up for breakfast really tired me out. I tried not to fall asleep since I had just eaten, but I just couldn't help myself. At 1pm, I went to Imagine RIT with Kellie and Min at RIT. Imagine RIT is like a big nerdy, science showcase. It was kind of fun. We got free bags out of it, so that's a win. We tried to find more free stuff, but I think because we went during the later part of the day, a lot of the stuff was already gone. We went mainly to watch Nick perform his capoiera (Brazilian martial arts/dance). It was good and he was quite happy to see us there :)

Afterward, I went back to GLC... and proceeded to pass out until the van came to pick people up for the Grad party at the Chens'. I think it's my allergies that are making me feel really drowsy. I was really tired yesterday. All I wanted to do was sleep. The party was a lot of fun. There was so much good food and we played some fun games (like Senior jeopardy) and watched a bonus, surprise video that some of the underclassmen made for the seniors. There was a lot of love and encouragement for the graduating seniors. It was heartwarming.

I would write about today, but I don't want to spew out a laundry list of things I did this weekend. My point is, I was busy this weekend so I didn't even have a chance to turn my computer on. Honestly, I didn't turn my laptop on once after I handed in my exam on Friday afternoon. It's a great feeling. I love it! It reminds me of life before we were all obsessed with the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Flickr, etc.

But then again... I did occasionally check my email/twitter/fb on my phone from time to time... so hah. Kind of defeats the statement I just wrote... BUT at least I didn't spend all my time plastered in front of the computer and that's good enough for me :]

One: inspiration

Where do you draw inspiration from?

I get inspired by people, things and places every day. Whether it be something small, like some stranger's blog or something big, like the TOMS One for One movement, it's all so inspiring to me. One of the places I get inspiration from is tumblr. Yeah, some people think it's stupid, others don't understand the point of it or whatever, but I like it. I like going through pages and pages of pictures, quotes, screen caps from movies, articles, ideas, etc and finding things that are interesting and quirky. The thing with inspiration though, is whether or not you do something with it. I get inspired all the time, but I never fully carry out that inspiration to its full potential. I'll think to myself, "OH MAN, that's so smart; I should do that too!" I'll maybe carry on for a few days, and eventually get lazy and forget. Isn't that terrible? Can you imagine the things I could have done had I had the motivation and passion to carry those inspirations to their full potentials? It could have been something amazing. I could have been the source of someone else's inspiration.

Why am I writing all of this today? Of all days, why today? Well, I stumbled upon some stranger's blog, read some of her posts, related to her thoughts and feelings and thought to myself, "I have so many similar thoughts! Why should I keep them all cooped up? Why should I care what other people might think? Maybe if I write it out, instead of being judged, they might actually understand my feelings and relate to me." And so... here we are.

I don't know if I'll actually keep this up. I hope I do. It's something I've always enjoyed (though being in college might have killed my desire for writing... all those papers x_x). I used to love writing so much. I still do, but I'm not as open and eager as I used to be.

They say it says 21 consecutive days of doing something consistently before it becomes a habit. I'll consider this my first post of twenty one. If I can post every day for 21 days, maybe I'll be able to blog consistently.

17 days

That's how many days I have until graduation.
17 more days until I am done with my undergrad career.

It's a bit surreal. School is all I know and now I have to face the real world. I have nothing waiting for me after graduation. Only unemployment and debt. What's there to look forward to? I want to be more optimistic about my future, but honestly, it's hard to do that when I feel so lost. Where do I go from here? I have no clue. I've been applying to jobs, but I haven't heard back from anything. It's disappointing. Am I not trying hard enough or something? I don't know. Right now, I'm just trying to finish up my take home final exam that is due tomorrow.

I haven't been productive today. I keep getting distracted by everything. I'm so utterly unmotivated to do any work!

AHHH. This is not good.

All I've done since I've gotten back to my room is paint my toessss. One thing I love about summer? Wearing sandals and flip flops... because then I can get pedicures and let my feet breathe :]

I guess I'll just make a list (I love making lists) since I'm already distracted and am not getting anything done.

Things to get done before graduation
1. PACK
2. Figure out what to keep and what to throw out/give away
3. Visit places in Rochester I've never been to
4. Spend all my time outside and with friends.
5. Take more pictures (I haven't spent any quality time with my camera lately)
6. Take pictures around campus.
7. Pack
8. Pack
9. Clean
10. Pack!

Mmmm, yeah. It's really happening. It's time for the real world.
