Change is always constant

So! New banner and new blog name. It was an impulsive decision. I was sitting in front of my laptop last night, waiting for the cupcakes Steph and I were baking, when I just got tired of my old banner. Not that it wasn't nice. I just wanted it to be different. And with the layout change came the name change. Actually, I take that back. I came up with the new blog name before I changed the banner. I think it was the smell of the chocolate cupcakes that inspired the change. I think I'm going to bake next weekend. I haven't done anything baking wise since school started. Last night's cupcakes don't count in my book because they were from a box. I want to do something cool. And time consuming. I don't know, I'm weird.

I am currently sitting in Java's at RIT, doing absolutely nothing. I was studying Chinese before, but the lighting in here is terrible and I feel like if I continued to study my Chinese, I'd be blind by the time I leave here. But anyway, since I have nothing better to do (though there is this unsettling feeling that there is something I'm forgetting to do), I figure right now is the best time to post up more pictures of my favorite topic, FOOD :)

One thing I miss about NYC is Republic. It's this great Asian noodle restaurant in Union Square. Their food is delicious and cheap (on NYC standards)! They not only have yummy noodle dishes, but their entire menu is good. The layout of the restaurant is special in the sense that the seating is modeled after a cafeteria. It's nice to go with friends, but not a very romantic atmosphere for a first date. I went twice over the summer with Vivian and I'm sad that I didn't go more often.

BBQ pork over noodles. I really liked the pickled carrots & daikon they give on the side.

Grilled pork chop over rice. I really liked this one. The rice was light and fluffy. So good.

I actually didn't get to bake much over the summer due to the fact that my house was under construction for a good three months or so. I did do a lot of eating though. I got to go to two different restaurants with my parents for Restaurant Week in NY. The first restaurant I went to was Payard Patisserie & Bistro and the second was Water's Edge in L.I.C. Both were quite nice; Water's Edge had a lovely view of the NYC skyline and Payard's decor was beautiful.

This is what I had at Payard.

Cheese souffle with an alfredo sauce. It was nice, not too heavy and the sauce didn't overpower the flavor of the cheese.

Roast chicken over mashed potatoes. The chicken was stuffed with mushrooms, and something else, I don't remember what.

Key Lime tart. It was yummy - it was very tart, but had just the right amount of sweetness to balance it out.

Peach creme brulee. I didn't like this as much as the key lime tart. I like my creme brulee just straight up creme and caramelized sugar. Mmmkaythx.

And this is what I ordered at Water's Edge.

Potato, leek and goat cheese terrine. I couldn't finish this because the flavor of the goat cheese was very heavy and it was my first time eating goat cheese. My dad really enjoyed this one though. He likes the gamey flavor.

Steak with potato tart and swiss chard. I don't remember much about this dish, but I do remember liking it.

Flourless chocolate cake. Yummy =)

Wow, blogging makes me tired. Uploading pictures and writing about those pictures takes a lot out of me. Haha. A nap would be nice right about now...

Belated summer foodie adventures

So as I am sitting here in Rush Rhees, reluctant to begin my studying, I realize that there are a good amount of foodie pictures from the summer I've neglected to blog about. And right now, blogging seems so much better than studying for my Chinese quiz tomorrow and more interesting than reading my assignments for my history classes. And a-here we go...

For Father's Day this year, I got to try this trendy new Asian fusion restaurant in Flushing called Mulan (the real reason is because the wait was too long for dimsum, so we opted for this, which I didn't mind because I like trying new things!)

Nice ambiance and trendy decor.

They had a prix fixe lunch menu so we just ordered off of that. We had to choose from a selection of soups, salads, main course and a dessert.

This is the soup that I ordered - Asian chowder - it was nice, kind of like an Asian play on clam chowder minus the cream, though I thought it was a little too salty. But my dad seemed to enjoy it.

The jellyfish salad I had. I liked this a lot - it was sweet and a little spicy and sour with a hint of cilantro, which was nice and refreshing.

And this was the entree I ordered, ginger duck. I really enjoyed it! The ginger was very subtle and the duck was cooked very well. Mmm, looking at the picture makes me want to eat it right now!!! My picture of it isn't that great but it tasted so good.

And finally, dessert - green tea pudding. It wasn't too sweet, which was nice and the green tea flavor was light and delicious. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal. It was just the right amount of food and I left feeling happy and full.

Mmmmmmmmm, I wish I had the time to post up more pictures of the food I ate during the summer, but these Chinese characters aren't going to memorizing themselves. Back to studying... T_T

Pop, pop, pop

Today has been such a long; a very long, and tiring day. I do not look forward to Mondays. It is my most packed day of the week. I cringe just thinking about all the things I have on Monday. CRINGE. It makes me tired thinking about it.

But Camille gave me some bubble wrap about halfway through my day so it made my day a little bit better. I love bubble wrap. Pop pop pop. I love that.

I'm taking a history of Christianity class and I'm reading about Jesus, and it's changing everything I ever thought I knew or understood. I don't know if it's a good thing or bad. I have yet to decide.

Headaches galore

I'm a bit convinced that I have some sort of tumor in my head. I keep getting headaches and it puts me in a foul mood because it feels like a very, very, very fat man is dancing and jumping on my head and sometimes he jumps especially hard on one side of my head. It's quite painful and it's been happening pretty often. I hope there's nothing wrong with my head. That would suck. I think the reason why I keep getting headaches is because I sleep funny and I hurt my neck and it just throws off the rest of my body and then I get a headache. Or something like that. I don't know.

So my new room in GLC is all set up now and I must say, I am liking it a lot. I finally have my own space! It's so nice. And it's bigger than my room at home (I'm totally NOT kidding); I'm almost not used to having so much space, hah.

My body is all achey. This year is going to be hectic. I still can't believe it's junior year. I seriously have to go and declare my major. And organize my life.

So tomorrow's the first day of classes ... and I don't have any classes to go to! Hah! Funny, ain't it? Anyhoo, I was supposed to have class, but my only Tuesday/Thursday class got canceled, which sucks because I was actually interested in the topic: Mao & the Cultural Revolution. The school is already lacking in the East Asian Studies department, and now it is even more lacking. I don't know how I feel about having all 4 of my classes on MWF. Eh, I guess I'll test it out and see how it goes...

I love inheriting things from people and when I say people, I mean Dan. It's great. Because of him, I have speakers and a television in my room. It's flippin' sweet.

But yeah, seriously. This headache needs to go away :(
